About This Training

Stimulants are a group of highly addictive classes of drugs that result in increased activity in the body. Sometimes referred to as “uppers,” these drugs are frequently abused due to their performance-enhancing and euphoric effects.” (Hardey, Thomas, Stein, Kelley, and Ackerman, 2021) Common names for stimulants include coke, crack, meth, and speed. Stimulants increase alertness, attention, and energy while also elevating blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing. An overview of SAMHSA’s recently updated Stimulant Use Disorders Treatment Protocol (TIP 33) will be discussed and how these changes impact treatment. Signs and symptoms of several types of stimulants will be discussed and how they impact minorities. The physical and psychological effects of stimulants and reasons why it is necessary to utilize best practice treatment. A review of best practice assessment tools, treatment models, and resources.
