This training will focus on best practice treatment models and techniques that are effective in working with individuals with co-occurring disorders. Several experiential activities will be utilized throughout the training to demonstrate  necessary skills and effectiveness of treatment models.

Goals/Objectives:

• Participants will gain knowledge about Counselors Perspectives on Theories
• Participants will complete a Quiz entitled, “Your Knowledge of Theories and Techniques”
• Participants will identify and explain the Six Schools of Thoughts and Their Theories of Helping (D. Halbur and K. Halbur, 2011)
• Participants will complete the Selective Theory Sorter questionnaire to assist them with a broader understanding of their theoretical orientation and practice
• Participants will explain why it is necessary to utilize comprehensive bio-psychosocial and substance abuse assessments, and other culturally sensitive and medical screening evaluations to assist them with identifying the needs of their clients.
• Participants will explain the definition/purpose of models and goals of two treatment models:
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Best Practice Treatment Model)
• Multidimensional Family Therapy (Evidence-Based Practice Treatment Model)
• They will learn how to utilize different treatment techniques of each of these treatment models when working with their clients.
• Experiential Activity: Participants will practice the use of treatment models techniques/interventions with the use of case studies.
